A production background before the microphone
Alex Cooper grew up in Pennsylvania and studied film and television at Boston University, where she also played college soccer. Production and performance were interests before podcasting became her main professional identity.
After university, she moved into work in New York, including advertising sales. Her later career brought those experiences closer together: a programme needed a clear identity, a continuing audience and a commercial structure as well as someone willing to speak on microphone.
A programme with a direct tone
Cooper and Sofia Franklyn created Call Her Daddy in 2018. Its conversational approach and candid discussions of relationships helped establish a distinctive public identity. Barstool Sports became involved early in the programme's development.
The show subsequently changed its working arrangement and Cooper continued as its host. Those developments form part of its business history as well as its creative one. The programme became associated particularly closely with her interviewing style and public personality.
Making the interview central
Call Her Daddy grew to include long conversations with prominent guests. The format made room for an interview that could travel as a complete episode or through shorter extracts, connecting the longer programme with social discovery.
Cooper's role developed around preparing and conducting those conversations. A recognizable tone provided continuity even when the guest and subject changed. That combination helped establish a programme identity that could sit within a larger distribution and production business.

Building beyond a single show
Unwell introduced a broader organizational ambition. Cooper and Matt Kaplan developed the business around talent, programmes and an audience familiar with candid conversation. It gave the founder a role beyond hosting her own recurring podcast.
The official Unwell site now presents a roster of shows and describes the brand in terms of media and lifestyle. A shared identity connects different programmes, while each host brings a separate voice. That makes the network a different subject from Cooper's individual biography.
A brand experienced in more than one format
Unwell's public offering extends into events, merchandise and other lifestyle activity alongside its shows. These are different ways for an audience to encounter a brand first made familiar through conversation and entertainment.
The host and the company builder
Cooper's career now includes both a continuing programme and the work of developing a wider media organization. Hosting puts her in the foreground of a particular conversation; founding creates responsibilities around other programmes, people and commercial relationships.
